Chakalaka & Pap Recipe

Irene Bongi Gwala shows us how to make chakalaka & pap. She has a bubbly personality and is a joy to be around.
Ingredients
3 Grated Carrots | 3 Teaspoon, A1 Mix Masala (Mild) |
1 Chopped Onion | 1 Can, Baked Beans |
3 Grated Tomato | Knorrox Chicken Stock Cube |
1 Chopped Green Pepper | Oil |
2 Teaspoon, Turmeric | Salt |
Chakalaka Preparation
- Heat the oil and add the chopped onion.
- When the onion is becoming translucent, add the chopped green pepper.
- Add the masala & turmeric.
- Add the grated tomato.
- Add the grated carrots.
- Drain the gravy from the baked beans and mix it with the Knorrox cube.
- Allow the carrots to cook for a bit and then add the drained baked beans.
- Add the Knorrox stock cube mixture to the pot.
- Add salt as desired. (1/2 teaspoon)
- Keep stirring with the wooden spoon so it doesn’t burn until it’s ready.
Pap Ingredients
250g, Margarine | 3 cups of boiling water |
500g, Maize Meal | 2 cups of cold water |
Pap Preparation
- Add 3 cups of water to a pot and bring it to a boil.
- Add 250g of margarine to the boiling water.
- Add 2 cups of cold water to a mixing bowl.
- Add 500g of maize meal to the mixing bowl with cold water and stir it while removing all the lumps.
- Add the maize meal mixture to the pot once the margarine has melted.
- Stir the pot and make sure that there are no lumps. It should take 10 minutes, stir regularly.
- Add salt to taste
